Here is video from today with differences between the current model of the Pro V1, V1x and the test ball.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgng5oQ1eHk

Keep in mind that at best I can get a Pro V1 to check up but the test ball most definitely seems much more spinny than either the v1 or v1x!

  2. Firstly I am not going to allow my feedback to be coloured by the article in NCG last month and BillMorgan's comments therein as this does seem to have influenced many of the posts in this forum and as such may call in question whether a fair test has been achieved.

Secondly I would comment that ascertaining spin on soggy greens in November is probably not the greatest measure either as most club greens would hold a any ball that embeds in it's pitch mark, just an observation.

I used the balls yesterday in dry but blowy conditions with wind speeds up to 10 mph. Off the tee the ball played well and flew a little higher than my normal Pro V1x with a driver, I would not say the ball was longer but did require more effort to fade or draw suggesting slightly lower spin.

Long and Mid Irons followed a similar pattern to woods with the ball stopping quickly even allowing for wet greens there was an element of bite, kick forward and stop. On shorter Irons the pattern was more bite, kick forward and spin back.

85 yards in the ball felt soft enough to control and stop but again I did not feel it performed as well as my regular ball, however the difference was nominal. I was able to screw the ball back on lofted approach shots into moderately soft greens however backspin was more in inches than feet. I'd certainly use the ball in winter conditions but in firmer summer conditions I am not sure it would stop as quickly. The ball felt clickier of the face.

Into the wind the ball stayed low of punch shots and stopped quickly on landing.

Chipping around the greens the ball ran well and again felt a little firmer than my regular ball and could visibly be seen to check on second bounce.

Putting I enjoyed putting with this ball possibly preferring it over my regular ball, again possibly due to a firmer feel on winter greens.

After 27 holes of play the ball displayed cosmetic marking to the painted finish but I was not able to clearly decide whether this was a urethane or isomer cover given soft conditions and wind it performed well and felt sufficiently soft to play well whilst feeling a little firmer than ProV1 and ProV1x balls I regularly play. The clicky feel was similar to TM and swoosh premium balls that I have tested both with Urethane covers that did not wear as well as the test balls.

Overall a decent ball, I'd play this in the winter but did not feel it was quite as good close in as my regular ball and I would probably not wish to use it in Dry and Firm conditions.

  3. I received the test balls and have played three rounds with one of them. I have found the flight to be higher than my usual Titleist ball and, even in these winter conditions, it carries further. A good product.
  4. I normally play Pro V1x and in comparison the test ball felt similar, maybe marginally softer. The test ball was slightly longer on tee shots, slightly less control around the green but a similar flight to the Pro V1X. Overall, a nice ball though I have a small preference for the Pro V1X - mainly because of the slightly better control around the green.

Dear Titleist First of all thank you for sending me three prototype Titleist golf balss to test. I finally had the opportunity to test the balls today, sadly with it being the 5th November it is winter golf here in England and the temperature was cool therefore not ideal conditions for giving realistic feedback. What I can say is the new prototype ball felt very similar to the PRO v1 and PRO v1x which i have played for many years, therefore i can only give positive fedback. The next chance I will get to give realistic feedback will be next season in summer conditions when the temperature is higher and i will get genuine golfing conditions to test the prototype ball under competitive conditions. I have played a few rounds now with this test ball. Feel is still very similar to the pro V1x. Howevr the cover seems much more durable. normally after one round with the current pro v1 there would be a lot of scuffs and marks on it. After 2 rounds the test ball is still in good condition. I feel the ball has also given me a few more yards distance both off the tee and with irons. One issue is that I don't think the ball is as easy to draw/fade. It tends to fly much straighter.

Thanks for sending the sleeve to me.

    Hi,

Many thanks for the sleeve of balls to test.

I currently play with the ProV1 and whilst these test balls were ok I didn't see a material improvement over my current ball, if anything they felt firmer on putts and did not fly high on short approach shots and therefore tended to run out more.

They didn't mark up, which is good and I did not appear to be losing distance on tee shots.

Hope this helps and once again thanks for the opportunity.

Thanks for the test balls I received recently, I've played a few rounds now and I have to say I'm impressed by them!!! They feel a little more solid off the face than a pro v but through the air the wind didn't really effect the flight much also it was cold the last time I played and I felt I never lost any distance either! Nice feel off the putter and very receptive on the greens too. Overall really pleased with these test balls thank you team titleist.

Played 9 holes with the balls I got, think they are the new pro v x. First of all I noticed that the pro v was 3-5 yards longer off the tee. which is a good start. But having been used to pro v x balls I did noticed what seemed to be increased spin off the tee. On the strike with the driver it seemed slightly softer and less clicky off the face and felt good and solid. On iron strikes I was getting good feel, and stop. Wedges felt good with good stop, no excessive spin and was able to get results from full and half shots. Was slightly less clicky off the putter but still give good feedback on strike and I was able to know if I struck it out the middle which I find gives me confidence. Played 18 hole medal on the weekend after receiving balls and was keen to get more feedback after good initial thoughts. Found the ball very good to use, shot 2 over handicap in a two club wind so was overall pleased. I was getting good flight into the wind and felt happy with the control I was getting from my full range of shots. Was a great ball to use and felt great, a little too much spin off the driver but all round really liked it. Thanks again Titleist.
  10. Got my sleeve of test balls last week thank you very much. Played with them yesterday, I would say they performed better in the wind than my usual Pro V1x, but with a slightly softer feel than the x on full shots with a decent level of spin, probably better feel round the green but a bit firmer off the putter although our greens are slower now and the ball needs hit firmer anyway. I felt the ball probably went a bit higher off the driver which suits me as I have a tendency to hit driver low even with my 913D2 set at A3 maybe a bit longer in distance and straighter. All round better ball than the x for me as long as the price wasn't higher ! Thanks again for the opportunity to test a Titleist product, you guys do the thing right, us normal mortals (ie handicap golfers) are the ones that seem to matter to you and that's why Titleist are the number one ball because you are prepared to let us do the testing in our own environment, thank you.

I must say from the momentI hit my first drive I loved these balls!!

The sound and feel are very different and that is very noticable around the greens and putting.

They increase my distance as they seem to stay in the air forever and found the trajectory is slighlty lower which gave me more control in the awful conditions lately.

The only slight downside which I noticed was the cover scuffed easier after a couple of bunker shots.

So please let me know when they are going to be released to the market as I will buy 3 dozen straight away!

I have been playing the test balls now for a couple of weeks and have played 6 rounds with them  Lost first one after a couple of rounds but the second ball is still going strong after 4 games although it is starting to show some signs of wear.

I am a 68 years old but still playing off 8 and my last two rounds have both been below handicap.

The ball plays very well and compares favourably to my usual Pro V1 (occasionally Pro V1x).  Spin control is good across the whole bag.  A well struck 3 hybrid from 190 yards to an elevated green stopped within a few inches of its pitch mark (admittedly softish green but impressive nevertheless).  Wedge shots get the control I would expect from a decent ball and it putts pretty well too (3 birdies in 4 holes in my last round speaks well for both aspects)

I am also convinced that this ball flies further into the wind than the Pro V1which is a huge bonus for me

Thanks for the opportunity to try them out and comment

The golf balls were both good and bad depending on shots I was playing, any long shots from 5 upwards I thought they spun to much so therefore not getting the driving flight I required but from 6 down where I wanting more control and spin to play more shots to draw or fade the ball was fantastic very good response to the club face and also could control the spin by having lots of it or playing a dead arm shot.

But over all a very good ball for a low handicaper with a medium to fast swing speed, 80-105

    Thanks adam

    Saffron Walden,

    Hi,

I have tested the prototype balls (red number) over the last few weeks.

i would say that they are similar to the Pro V1x but with some improvements.

off the tee and with mid to long irons it was no different from the pro v1x.

when you get into wedge distances though, the ball was definitely had a softer feel and generated more spin.

Around the greens there was more spin so more control compared to my pro v1x and the soft feel continued with the putter.

the ball is very very durable. After 18 holes it was still as good as new. This would make it much better value for money. The wedges don't cut it up as much as the older pro v1x.

All in in all a great ball as expected and an improvement on the old ones.

    Keep up the good work

    Ross

First of all thanks for the test balls, again a very good high quality ball. Ive used the balls for a few rounds now and to tell the truth the only real difference is they feel a little softer than the 2014 pro v1 . This is great on and around the greens. The flight and length off the tee are perhaps a little longer and lower but that could be just the way im hitting it at the moment.

                                       Thanks again Tony

Thanks for the sleeve of test balls. I found them excellent! Great stopping power on approach shots. Great control around the greens, and a lovely flight off the tee. If you want to give me any more free balls that would be fine by me!

hi, i recently received the new ball from you guys. it had a black number but I'm not sure if that indicated it was an 'X' or just the normal ProV1..? however the balls feels very solid, very good in the wind and feels nice and firm around the greens but your not sacrificing any feel in my mind, would love to try the other ball if your considering R&D with that also.

    regards,

    George

tried the new ball today after using a Pro V 1 for most of the round on a windswept Scottish links. The new ball sounded slightly different off the club similar to but not the same as the 1x.The ball flight of a driver was slightly lower than the Pro V1 and it seemed to go slightly further, and the impact felt a bit harder .The feel off a wedge was soft and the ball stopped very sharply on a firm green.I would be undecided about changing but if the extra distance was regular then I would be tempted to move from a Pro V1 to what I think may be the new Pro V1x. great to get an early chance to try these so big thanks to team titleist

Played a few more holes today and to be honest these test balls are probably the closest thing to a magic golf ball that I have ever come across!

I had five drives with my titlest d910 driver today that measured 273, 301, 236, 265 and 220 yards. The thing that is getting me is just how straight this ball flies and it hangs up in the air for an eternity!

Even the 236 and 220 yard drive were much further than I would have normally expect to hit the ball as they were directly in to a very stiff head wind. BUT it was the second shot on the final hole (the 220 yard drive hole) that really stood out for me as I had 186 yards in to the pin, I pulled out my 7 iron and had one of the cleanest connections Id had all day in to the green. When I got up to the ball I was amazed to see that it had spun back about 3 feet from the pitch mark! Ive NEVER spun a ball backwards off the fairway with an iron before!

One final note about back spin. On the 236 yard drive the ball just hung up in the air for an eternity in the pretty damn stiff head wind but interestingly enough when I got up to it (centre of the fairway of course:) it had spun backwards from its pitch mark by about 6 or 7 inches. Id not seen that before off any of my drives (ok, most because I rarely hit the fairway but thats besides the point:).

Tell you what, if I as a 22 handicapper can get back spin with wedges and irons and more importantly a ton of distance off the tee this ball, if it goes in to production, WILL put all other balls out of business! Without a word of a lie this ball is like a cross between a bstone E6 and a Pro V1!

Have been testing the new balls for the last week or so and am not sure whether I like the softer feel of the ball.

I also seem to have lost a little distance however this could be related to the winter conditions.

Around the greens and putting however I did see an improvement.

I would say that I would like to test these balls again in better weather conditions but overall I would definitely want to try these a lot more.

Firstly thank you for the test balls.

I found that they have a great feel and flight, and they certainly go further than my previous pro V's.

they do mark quite easily though and after 1 round found it cut up more than usual.
