Please leave your feedback in this discussion post. Thanks for the opportunity to test the the three Titleist test balls . This took place over the last 6/7 daysover the Jubilee and New Courses at St Andrews and Crail Golfing Society. Being a 13 handicapper the ball performed as you would expect of a Titleist ball and was great for links golf - length of the tee and amazing control around the greens for control. PS had links ticket at St Andrews for 2 years now and for Titleist to supply test balls around the greatest golf courses in Scotland/ Britain/ the World !!!! - you have made a moderate golfer a very happy bunny. So I took the opportunity to play a further 5 holes on Saturday with the test balls and had the following results with drivers off the tees;
3 Wood - 246 yards, no wind, absolutely dead straight perfect connection and about 10 yards further than current ball.
Driver 910d3 - 242 yards in to wind, slight pull, definitely didn't connect. Plenty of distance and felt like a lot more than what I would have got given the type of shot it was if I was using my current ball.
Driver 910d3 - 278 yards slight head wind, dead straight, perfect connection! In the past Ive absolutely walloped the living daylights out of my ball thinking to myself "this is going to be past 300 yards" and only to get up there and the GPS measuring counter JUST ticks over 250 yards! This one was right out of the top shelf!
Hybrid - 233 yards, perfect connection, no wind.
Driver 910d3 - 223 yards directly in to stiff head wind.
This test ball is most definitely out flying the current production model by around 5-10 yards EASILY!
However its performance around the green is astonishing. On occasion I had a Pro V1 backspin off a tee shot or coming out of a bunker (with a perfect lie) but these balls seem to be a lot more grippy than my current Pro V1's.
In total I've probably played probably a good full round (as well as pitching and chipping on a number of other holes as opportunity presented itself) with the test balls and find their performance feels definitely a lot hotter than the current production models, or any of the previous models as well. The ball does seem to get much higher than the current ball and where as the ball flight with the current ball seems much more loopy this ball seems to follow more of a "hell fire" type flight path where the ball will take off low and then suddenly rise steeply in to the air before dropping down softly on to the green.
Perhaps this is just my swing but it seems to happen with every clean connection regardless of club being used.

Hi Titleist, Finally got the chance to get out and test the new Pro v1x balls. My first impression on the putting green was that the ball felt very solid off the putter almost heavier if that makes sense. First tee shot felt very nice and the ball seemed to climb a bit higher than normal and defiantly flew straighter as my normal ball flight is a little fade, this was noted through the round by my playing partners and I could feel that if a did cut one a little that the ball seemed to stay a little straighter. I felt I had a lot of control with the ball around the greens and could get it check up quite nice when chipping and pitching.
Full shots into greens responded with the drop and stop you would expect and on some very well struck shots got around 4 to 6ft of spin.
Durability of the ball seemed very good and I could defiantly play the ball again next week. Cant wait. I would normally put a new ball into play every time I play but this ball can be played next week even with some full SM5 wedge shots.
I am in the process of ordering my new 915 driver so I cant wait to put both into play. Less spin on the ball and less spin on the driver should result in more fairways hit. Keep up the good work Titleist.
P.S if you have any jobs doing this then please please let me know. LOL.
Thanks very much for the opportunity.
Regards,
Russell.

thanks again for letting me test these balls, i played them on sunday an was well impressed with both the black numbers an the red, was well impressed with how much control i got with my short irons from 110 yards into greens, an off the tee the sound off my driver was amazing, an the distance was impressive too. Even the flight was impressive too as i didnt seem to get them ballooning up, they seem to have a true flight an a good roll out even though it was a bit damp under foot. they didnt seem to scuff up as easily as i thought they might as being a soft ball, I did prefer the black numbers but there wasnt much in it as i loved both balls. When will these balls be going out for sale as i need to be buying these as i dropped 4 shots off my best round!!! Hopefully i will have some left for when i get 915 d2 driver!!!!!!
Many thanks again...................

I usually play the ProV1 but received a red numbered ball. It was a harder feel from the driver and went about the same distance with my tee shots. It was also a harder feel with the irons and when chipping. I liked it to putt with as I am usually a weak putter and the firmer strike meant I was getting a few more putts up to the hole. I played in wet and windy conditions and the ball handled well but it was difficult to gauge the spin level as our greens are very soft at the moment. The cover lasted well and only had 2 minor scuffs after 18 holes. I'm not sure if the ball will be the next ProV1 as it felt too hard. Nice ball, good for winter conditions but too hard for me during the summer months. Thanks Titleist for sending them to me and giving me the opportunity to try them.

Hi I used the test ball on our league team day out. I shot 39 points to win, The ball was great to chip with and flew very well into a strong breeze.
Looks like a winner to me.

Keep up the good work.

Received the test sleeve of balls in the post.
They fly well, with a good ball flight and go a pretty good distance too. I got some exceptional spin with 20 - 30 yard wedge shots as well as full lob wedge shots, so no problem there.
The main difference seems to be the durability. I have used one ball for three rounds now and it is still in very good condition and I expect could easily get another 2 - 3 rounds out of it.
The one item which is different from any other ball I have used - ever - is that I hit two trees full on and the ball did not leave that orange/yellow stain which all other balls make. Maybe it is the time of year (end October/start November), but I don't think so.
Just to confirm I am single handicap player, but am in the senior category, so maybe the ball has a slightly lower compression than a Pro V1. Whatever it is, I would be tempted to use it, if I knew eventually what the model was.
Very impressed.

Many thanks for the test balls, they were waiting for me when I recently returned from playing in Morocco, it was a shame they did not arrive before I left. The first opportunity I had to test them was on Saturday.
I have recently started playing with the Pro V1X, so I tested all three types of balls on the green first. The test ball seemed to be slightly firmer of the club face that the Pro V1, more consist with the Pro V1X but the roll was better. The feel of the putter face was something between the Pro V1 and Pro 1X. I then went on to chipping and pitching, I played 12 shots with each ball and although the green was relatively soft, the test ball seemed to run consistently and I could impart spin very easily.
When I took the ball on the course, I could not believe the flight. It was as per a Pro V1X but seemed not to be effected so much by the wind. I would say it did not impart some much side spin. I naturally draw my irons and slightly fade my driver but it certainly flew straighter. With respect to distance, I seemed to add about 5% to my drives and irons, in fact I hit several short irons to far, possibly gaining 10%. With respect to the flight, it was difficult to tell, I moved to the Pro V1X for a better flight but it seems very similar.
I also noticed that the balls offered greater control on three quarter type shots, which I tend to hit a lot during the autumn and winter.
Unfortunately, I hit several bunkers during the round but I managed to stop the ball every time and the durability was fantastic, I did not mark the ball even after 5 bunker shots, not all in one bunker may I add.
This is certainly a ball I would consider playing especially during the winter months.
I have used one of the test balls for three full rounds now and have been impressed with the distance and spin achieved. I am a senior golfer but playing off single figures, so I'm not sure if this ball has a slightly lower compression. It certainly seems to fly further than my usual Pro V1.
I achieved exceptional spin from 20 - 30 yards up to full wedge also.
The durability was exceptional and even after hitting two trees full on, the orange/yellow stain you normally get with other balls was absent. So, after three rounds the ball is almost as good as new with no marks. I have even played out of a few bunkers with relatively no scuffing.
Very impressed with the ball and would happily use it, once the name is made known to the golfing world.

Hi,
Tried the Test ball over 2 weekends. First shot off the 1st Tee Straight down the middle, it felt great on the Driver, in fact it has a great feel off the irons and hybrids as well, as for putting....my scotty loves em.
I think the action on the ball when hitting the green is as good as the Pro v, I've played two solid rounds with the same ball and its durable for sure, especially when we are playing preferred lies now and half the time i didn't bother preferring just to put the ball thro the mill so to speak.
Would i buy? YES I would.
Thank you for the opportunity of testing.

Fairway conditions wet , test ball carry 5 to 10 yards further than my PRO V1x. Feel on approach shots both balls similar. More spin and check on the green from the test ball and it felt softer off the putter face. The test ball had less scuff marks and is more durable.
thanks for inviting me to test the. Ball,

Thank you for sending the 3x Pro V1X test balls. I used them on my last round of golf and found them slightly longer than the existing Pro V1X also they seemed lighter. Around the greens and from bunkers they performed great and they rolled well on greens. All in all very impressed!!
Kind regards,
Malc

I received the test balls on the 23rd Oct 2014. Since then I've been able to play at Wakefield (Yorkshire - Quite a hill course) and Formby Hall (Merseyside - Breezy, parkland course with lots of water - only played 13 holes due to weather). My ability as a golfer isn't great tbh, so this isn't scientific in any way, and I probably held back on a few longer shots for fear of losing the balls! Normal ball for comparison - Titleist DT Solo & swoosh 20XI s.
Drives: At Wakefield, there was little breeze so I was able to hit driver / 5 metal and was consistently straight and long. Distance was similar to normal, but I was holding back a bit for fear of a wayward strike. Sound of contact was fantastic, but soft wintery fairways stopped rollout. Due to higher winds at Formby Hall, I hit a few more long irons from the tee. The ball felt softer than the DT Solo and was a pleasure to hit.
Irons: The ball responds really well to off-centred hits without much loss of distance. This was really pleasing for a high handicapped like myself as my GIR figures were much better than normal.
Putts: Took a little bit of time to get used to the softer feel, but once I did I didn't hit a 3 putt at FH for the first time in ages.
I think for someone of my ability (88 at Wakefield), the ball is really confidence inspiring, especially in the FIR / GIR stakes. I don't know if it was down to me concentrating harder for fear of the wild shots I'm prone to, and therefore losing a ball, or the ball, I'd have to test some more.
The balls still feel tacky to the touch after the 18+13 holes, and aren't showing signs of cutting or scuffing.
Thank you for the opportunity to demo the balls.

Thanks for considering me for the test ball group. I have been gaming the balls for the last few weeks. I normally play the Pro V1x so I can only compare the balls to them. Here are my personal feelings over a few rounds.
I was surprised to find that the test ball was longer for me off the tee, and in general to be honest. I have quite a slow swing as I find it keeps me on the fairway, but I was almost a full club up on distance with the test ball compared to the Pro V1x.
With the irons I seemed to get a lot of air, which I'm not complaining about, although I was out on a couple of windy days so it got tricky at times. I don't know if this (the high flight) is because I was getting more spin but I did notice a huge difference from the sand. The ball really responds to a wedge!
On the green is where I found it most difficult. The ball is quite hot off the putter face. I found myself really having to try to ease the ball along the green which did get the ball rolling nicely... probably helped me settle over the ball really. I'd really have to play these balls a lot more to be truly confident on the green with them.
Overall I really liked the test ball and could put in the work on the green as the extra distance I'm achieving is worth the trade off.
Thanks again for the opportunity, really appreciated it. Nice to see a big company considering the views of the golfing masses.

Hi there,
Recently received a sleeve of the prototype test balls and was very pleased with the results.
i currently use the ProV1 x and I assume this is what I was sent. I noticed that he feel was much softer with the short game, felt as though the ball grabbed the floor once pitching on the green, so ultimate control. along with this there was good feel on longer shots with the standard consistency and ball flight.
Very much looking forward to playing the new ball when it's released.

Thank you for the new prototype golf balls and for including me in your customer feedback study. I presently play the Pro V1 but have decided to change over to the Pro V1x as I am looking for more distance and lower spin from my driver. That said, the prototype balls appear and feel very similar to the current Pro V1.
From the tee, the ball felt soft but extremely responsive. A strong penetrating ball flight with not too much spin from the driver and the longer clubs, especially into the wind. There was a slight increase in distance gained with the driver and long irons but through the mid-short irons the ball performed similarly (distance/control) to my current ball.
The performance of the prototype ball around the green is where I noticed the real difference. I played a variety of shots around the green (bump and run, chips, lobs and bunker shots) during the course of the round and although the ball did feel soft off the clubface, it seemed to react with very little spin (not what I would have expected) resulting in a loss of feel and consistency around the green. The ball did feel slightly firmer off the putter face than the current Pro V1 and that also led to some distance control issues throughout play.
Overall, I found that the prototype ball provided satisfactory distance gains with the driver and low irons. However, I felt that I lacked control and consistency around the greenside and my confidence to become aggressive around and on the green dropped significantly when playing the prototype ball. I believe this ball would suit players currently using the NXT range.
