Hey Team, Obviously most of us are aware of the poor decision to close golf in Ontario again.

Yesterday the gov faced extreme backlash on closing outdoor activities, especially from the medical community. Several petitions arrived and they are opening playgrounds and parks again.

25 yrs encouraging people to take up golf for mobility, mental health, increased physical well being and more.

The closures of golf, and pickle ball and tennis are terrible for seniors and general population as a resource to keep moving and decrease the effects of arthritis, mental isolation, and deteriorating bodies.

Please visit Change.org and join the petition petitions circulating to get our Safe, Clean, Healthy courses open again ASAP! 49,000 signatures as of this morning, and many epidemiologists and doctors asking the gov to reverse that decision.

Lets take back our wonderful (just in time for buy 3 get one free to arrive!!!)

    Cheers team!

Even the Doctors on the Science Table did NOT recommend that outdoor activities should be shut down. Who knows where this particular edict came from. Hoping for a change to this ban on golfing within the next week or two.

I agree. Closing the golf courses in Ontario was not a really well thought out decision. Golf is not a spreader. I would bet that in the not too distant future golf will be back open again in Ontario. I'm sure Ford is getting pressured heavily on this on a daily basis.

Definitely not happy with this decision. I’ve been fortunate enough to get out for several rounds already this year.

Hoping this decision gets reversed soon than later. We need this for our health and we’ll being. A lot of people depend on this solely as exercise. Fingers crossed!

I signed it as well. This golf shut down is a classic case of "I don't know what to do to help, so I will do what I can, even though I know it might not help ....." So Brutal......

Here in Alberta the courses are open. According to what I have heard no cases. Of COVID contracted at a golf courses in Alberta last year.

I'm sorry to hear this decision. I live in Alberta and hope the same doesn't happen here. It was bad enough to not play hockey most of the winter but to take away our golf would be very bad.
  10. Still hoping Ford recants and reopens courses. It doesn't make very much sense.

100,000+ signatures on the Change.Org petition ...... so far not much effect sadly.
  12. I signed it when it came out. Not much good so far but I’m still hoping Mr Ford reverses his decision soon. It’s frustrating not being able to play when golf is a naturally self distracting sport.

I fully agree with everyone - Golf has not been a problem. In general, the golf courses have been following all the rules carefully and doing everything possible to help protect the members and public golfers. The message has been strong from GAO to the government, that the Golf Course owners have been diligent in following the rules. The Golf Course in Ontario that opened up last week may have provided the Government with an example of the alternative. The government can now point to a facility that blatantly has broken the law. I can only hope that the government sees this as an outlier and not the norm. Hopefully courses will be allowed to open soon as the numbers in Ontario seem to be dropping !

You may have seen in the news last week that The Bridges at Tillsonburg opened last weekend despite the closures. It happens to be the course I play the most. We looked at getting a time but it was full by the time we looked.
It is not a member of GAO so the owners decided to open. I'm not sure if they were trying to make a political statement, or a buck.
The pro there is a former student of mine and he is not working during the closures. He's following the provincial guidelines.
I haven't heard of any fines being given out to the golfers or the club. I'd still be a little hesitant to go until they are officially open again. $750 would be an expensive round.

Just announced this morning that the course has been charged with contravening the closure order and faced up to a $10,000 fine.

The article I read said they go to court June 3 and face up to a $10 million fine.

Depends I guess if they go after the golf course as an individual business (Lower fines) or as a corporation breaking the rules (up to $10M in fines). Guess we'll see though I would expect that levying a fine near the upper limit would be catastrophic to the course.

20 million rounds played in Ontario last year and not one covid case linked to golf. Come on Ontario!! We need golf!!

Just saw on the 12:00 noon news that the OPP paid them another "visit" and they will be dealt with accordingly. The news didn't say who was involved as far as an officer of the company or players of that day being fined. It wouldn't be hard to fine the individuals who played... just have to check the 'full tee time sheet'! As for the owners/management fine, it may be more than the green fees taken in that day, Ouch!

On Sunday News at 6:00 PM, the OPP were shown stopping golfers as they left the golf course and were handing out tickets valued at $880.00.

Pretty expensive round as someone said earlier in this post, but the golfer who was interviewed by the reporter said he expected that to happen, really?

Earlier, the news report stated the Police stood by a river bank and watched the golfers from a distance and wrote down specific characteristics of the golfers... I guess this was to ensure they had the right individuals... incredible!

This is all just so screwed up on every level.

I have a feeling that those who get fined for defying anti-covid laws think that all the tickets will be tossed out in court. Another thing to keep in mind is that the owners of the course may end up having a difficult time renewing their liquor licence once they have a conviction on their record... Just not worth it right now !
