I have managed to play 3 rounds since the courses opened back up and to my amazement I managed to play 53.5 holes without losing a ball.

In fact I didnt lose a ball, I now exactly where it is. I just washed it on the last hole, second shot over water with a downhill lie, 170 yards.

I thought, I would be squirting all over the place but I think not having any expectations has helped and I have managed to play more or these to my handicap.

Which is a miracle really as I was struggling before lockdown.

Having a day off today but playing again Friday and Saturday.

I just great to get out of the house, I'm sure you all know what I mean lol

I played 16 until it got dark on Monday where I was spraying it around a bit and 9 on Wednesday when I was a bit better. I’ve got an 8:30 tee time in the Easter fourball stableford on Good Friday which will be the first club comp of the year and my regular Saturday game.

Then I need to practice hard because my club Masters is the same Saturday as the US Masters (except it wasn’t last year for obvious reasons). It’s usually the first strokeplay and the first “club major” boarded comp of the year. I came 3rd last year and lost by a stroke. I want to win it this time.
  3. So happy to hear that the courses are back open across the UK and everyone is able to get out and have a hit.
Hope you are all staying safe and hitting some good shots ️‍♂️
  4. So far, not so bad and possibly better than expected, given the break. My last round was to handicap and actually lowered my WHS rating.

Pretty good off the tee and the rest is okay with the odd errant/stupid shot thrown in. Putting is also “okay” but with one or two 3 putts in each of three rounds so far. I also had a lesson on Monday so trying to remember those swing thoughts too.

The main issue is that I have gone soft - a blister on one heel and I have rubbed through the skin on my right ring finger so now I have an open sore. This will need covering up before rounds on Sat and Sunday!

It was great to be out there - especially in shorts and a polo on Tue and Wed.
  5. Unfortunately with immaculate timing I have displaced two of the discs in my lower spine which has trapped nerves causing spasms and weakness in my legs . Having only played three games in last 18 months I was really looking forward to playing twice a week and getting handicap down . I did this in first week of March just after paying subs and just before lockdown eased !!!
Got appt with consultant next Saturday so hopefully be playing soon after physio -meantime watching golf on tv and enjoying everyone’s tales of getting out playing again

sorry to hear .. I'm nowhere near as bad but managed to badly sprain ankle 2 weeks ago so I'm also frustratingly missing out at present - gutted to have missed getting back, timing sucks!, but hopefully as they've now confirmed no break I'll be 'ok' in another week.
    Good luck with the consultant

Played 9 holes for the first time on Thursday after having my left knee replaced in early December. Couldn’t have timed it better to coincide with lockdowns.

Took me just two tee shots to lose a ball but generally I was happy with how I played and my knee held up well.

Probably try to get 18 holes in this weekend.

Hoping for great things this year - aren’t we all?!!

Well, would you believe it ...

I played my third competition since courses re-opened and after over 50 years of trying, I had my first hole in one! 124 yards, AP3 pitching wedge and a ProV1x.

It was a well-struck shot and I saw the ball go in the hole. My wife was amongst my playing partners so she was able to witness it which was a real added bonus.

My new knee must be making a difference!

  9. Sounds like everyone is making the most of it and most importantly enjoying it

Only managed to get out once this week, but it felt so good! Going to need a few practise sessions before the comps start

I have played to my handicap twice which has surprised me a little and ball striking has been good too. The weather has definitely helped, the main problem has been my ‘golf’ fitness, forgot how difficult walking 18 can be...! It is great to be back though.

Had a few range sessions to find my groove again. Will be out Tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday.
  12. Happy so far - striking pretty well. Had a lesson and sessions at the range and played to handicap.

Hoping to play below handicap in the next rounds

My tee to green game is great, probably due to my low expectations but my putting is another story!!

I joined a new club just before the November lockdown (great timing on my part) and the greens are quicker and more undulating than I am used to so I am blaming that!

It was great to finally get out again and good to catch up with the guys and all the chat!!

First 9 holes was pretty good but the 2 rounds over Easter were shocking, my short game feel has completely deserted me, so some much needed practice is needed but am sure it'll come back.
  15. I had a lesson first monday back and found that I had lost all timing in my swing! so spent some time getting that better.

Since then I have played the PGA National twice at the Belfry and played my home club of Kilworth Springs twice all rounds in the Low/mid 80's so I am really really pleased and now have my first comp tomorrow.

Loving my new bag that I finally got to use - The Stadry Cart 15 - not a fan of my water bottle holder on my powakaddy trolley as I lost not only my water flask that was invaluable in both the winter and summer but it also let my Titleist T100 Flask fall on the floor without me noticing, so I nearly cried when I noticed and the group behind us found nothing

    GUTTED!!!

No golf in Ireland until the 26th of April, not hit a golf ball since 27th of December. Going mad to play.

Went out today and everything went wrong apart from the putter.

Terrible of the tee, counldnt find my yardard with my irons..

Tho the putter was saving me to be honest.

Got o the 17/18th tee and the driver went a mile and same with the 3 wood!

    This game

    Back to the drawing board
  18. Started with a guest appearance at Formby Hall. Started with a beautiful high 3 iron draw that morphed into a hook and hit the lake left of the 1st tee at about 230 yards. My pals reckoned they couldn't hit the lake off the tee. They really lack ambition. Improved after that with a few pars and a tasty birdie but left some ammo out there. Have played my home course a couple of times and have been happy at +4 to my handicap. Haven't taken more than a 3-iron (U500) off any tee yet and have been playing with more nous than usual. Quite pleased with my short game touch post-Lockdown (jinxed it??). Have been a regular at Foregolf Chester over the last couple of weeks and have now grooved my faults.
New StaDry bag arrives tomorrow. TSi2 3-wood (Tensei Blue 5-wood shaft) on order but quoted 4 weeks for delivery. Oh well.... it's a long season.

  19. Been playing okay so far - driving and long irons better v. the horror of more thinned short irons and the always inconsistent putting. It’s all really been “theory”/practice so far but Saturday brings the first club comp so I am very interested to see what happens!

Either way, simply joyful to be back playing especially as the course improves every day as the conditions provide spring growth etc.

Is everyone back on track now. My initial new found form has continued but I must admit I have been struggling on the last few holes. I think its just fatigue from not playing, so I think I need to improve my fitness.

But isnt great to be back out there !!!!!
