Starting to see posts with the plain sleeved 2019 Proto balls. As the last V1/V1X release was 2017, it would be logical to think that this is part of the testing process for the next generation. Is this something that will be offered to U.K. Team Titleist? I’d be a very willing volunteer...

    Liversedge,

That seems to be a good idea, I would also volunteer, it’s seems Canadian members are getting the test balls sent, just when there weather is changing mostly for the worst, UK members still have a little longer to test the balls on regular prepared courses

In the past I believe the Proto balls were sent out at random at towards the end of October here in the UK.

Looks like Canada and also ANZ have been getting the 2019 Proto rest balls. Would love to be part of the U.K. test program.

We were lucky enough to get some at the TT Invitational, 6 Pro V and 6 Pro Vx.

I did some chipping and putting with 3 of the V around the short game areas at Turnberry and was impressed with it. I had been experimenting with the AVX for a few weeks, but after talking with the ball guys and getting on the Trackman, it wasn't spinning enough for me so I'm going back to the V. The proto V felt good around the green, I could get it to stop on little shots and check up nicely on little chips I like to play with my 54deg.

A few days after getting home I did notice that the cover had stained slightly from some of the chip shots, haven't noticed it since so maybe the practice areas up there had been treated with something recently. I played a few holes V on a couple of different occasions and was impressed with the performance. I'm not going to sit here and say they're the longest, straightest ball I've ever used as quite frankly, I'm a 7 handicap amateur who doesn't practice and plays once a week if I get the chance so my swing changes from shot to shot never mind day to day! But I haven't noticed any loss in distance or any other performance issues that would put me off them. I have noticed a slightly lower flight and more distance off the tee but that's a combination of the ball and my new TS3!! The main thing for me is that they feel great off the putter, nice and solid off the wedge around the green, I can play an array of different shots and it acts the way I want / expect.

One thing I will say is that others have commented on durability being superb but I must admit that I have noticed some scuff's / wedge marks from some really good wedge shots I've hit, where the ball has stopped or spun back, but you can see the groves of the wedge have left marks / little cuts. Nothing that would make the ball unplayable for a few more holes but enough to notice over the previous version IMO. I also noticed that after a bunker shot or sandy lie, cant remember which it was, but there was some grains of sand imbedded in the cover of the ball.

Last Sunday I played at the London club and decided to give the Proto VX a go, I used it for 3 holes and changed it for a Proto V. Off the tee / fairway it performed well, again nothing that would put me off using it, but I found around the green that it didn't stop as quickly as the V for me, didn't quite react in the same way (I guess its not designed too as its a different ball!) But the main thing is I found it very firm and clicky off the wedge / putter face and that was an instant turn off for me.

Hopefully we should see these proto balls getting out to other UK TT Members in the coming weeks to test, will be interesting to see what the wider audience thinks.

I’ve had my name down as a tester for years but not lucky enough to get any. Seems the YouTubers have no problem getting them though. Most of them don’t even use Titleist equipment.

Ive got my name down for this years protos, hopefully they get sent out soon and we get to try them??? Just have to keep checking the post. hahaha
  15. I picked up my proto dozen at the Invitational and have use both V1 and V1x over the last 2 rounds.
First thing to notice is that as with previous generations (in my experience) the V1x scuffs more easily than the V1; this is more noticeable after playing from sand or hitting a hard wedge.

Around the greens I found the V1x to be more suited to my game. I was getting it consistently closer to the hole on chip shots and long putts.

It may have been inconsistency in my game but I found the V1x to give me a higher flight than the V1 and preferred that trajectory, particularly on iron shots.

Trackman may inform me differently but I don't feel my game is good enough to distinguish between balls that are this good so for now I'll keep on using the V1, at least until the brand new stock of 90 that I have goes down :-D

Luke from Titleist mailed me today to inform me I was being sent some Prototypes to test. Can't wait to see what they're like and post my feedback on here.

I’ve also just had an email and will be receiving some to test soon!
Really looking forward to putting the new versions up for comparison against the 2017 balls.
I switched from V1 to V1X in the current ball as I prefer the higher flight and spin. The slightly firmer feel took a bit of getting used to, but now I’m settled with the feel and sound.

Got some Promo 2019 Pro V1 and Pro V1X at the Team Titleist trip to Turnberry in October. I've been using then since and must say the feel off the putter on the V1x is harder and a more solid feel to me then the V1's. They both come off the face a lot quicker and harder and you get more distance with these than other Pro V1s I've used in the past. They both feel good with Irons and it feels like you get more spin on the V1X off the driver. Both balls very good to play with and has converted me from other brands I've used. I do not move from the Prov1X now and use all the time. Getting a better feel from these balls, the only down side is that they scuff and discolour more than other balls I've use. I can live with this with all the positives I'm getting.
