I use a 19 and 23 and I always think of them as a 2 iron and a 4 iron. I get really good distance from my 19 and it is great from the rough. To be honest I have never compared it to a 5 wood but I would imagine I would get a bit more distance from the wood but do not feel it is a gap I need to fill in the bag.
But this is all relative really. You need to get fitted and if you can get on a monitor with real balls, even better. That way you will get the best combo of shaft and head for your swing and your requirements.

All depends on where you are looking to play the club, fairway/rough.
If majority of the time it is fairway then 5 wood would be ideal but another consideration is how you need the ball to land, softly or rolling

The only way to tell would be using a launch monitor to check distance then see if you can use so demo clubs out on the course. Personally I use a 915 hd 17 degree and ramped up on the surefit by .75. I find them easier to get airboirne than the 5 wood and can play knock down shots etc easier so have stuck with it now for two years and will not be replacing it until its dead.

I also play a 19 and 23 915hds much more versatile. I can hit them in the rough, fairways, putt and chip with them, shape shots from the trees and even hit them from fairway bunkers.

I am looking at getting new clubs and I am unsure whether to get a 5 wood or not. Not keen on the Hybrids but will see how I hit them at my fitting.

I currently have 917 5 wood sitting out of the bag in favour of 816 hybrid 19 deg. I just seem to hit the hybrid as far but higher however, I am about to change shafts so situation may change.

Only want to tell Andrew is by testing both clubs, preferably with a pro and launch monitor, then deciding what gives you the most/best option.
