  1. A nephew is getting married this coming June in the Elkhart area. Wife and I are talking about taking our time returning home to the northwoods of WI and playing some golf along the way. I’ve been many times up through the heart of MI, but this trip want to go either coast, maybe leaning towards along Lake Huron to the big bridge.

Any suggestions about places to visit and play? We don’t need to see the best and highest cost golf, just want to explore and see some country we haven’t seen before.

I'm certainly no Michigan golf expert, but I have been to Treetops Resort a few times, the golf was fantastic, great weekend getaway type place. The Gaylord area has several great courses, this was a few years ago. Our last trip was to Arcadia Bluffs, which was beautiful. We mostly do the resort thing, as we have a small group of scotch drinking gamblers. I would love to spend a month up there, in September driving town to town...

Arcadia Bluffs, Kingsley, and also Crystal Downs if you can get on… lots of good golf up there.

Arcadia you will need to well ahead the tee sheet fills up quickly. Can get a good deal to play both courses and overnight stay as well.

Haven't golfed much below the bridge but there is plenty of great golf in the UP. Just not plenty of summer. 1st recommendation would be to stop for 18 at Indian Lake Golf Course in Manistique. Of course, you couldn't go wrong with any of the Perfect Foursome options with the Island Resort Casino properties. I was a member at Greywalls for a number of years and can attest to a trip to MQT being worth an overnight. Plenty of other great options to check the further west you get. Safe travels.

  6. To me, Michigan is a very under appreciated golf state. Some great ones to look at are:

Forest Dunes and if you stay onsite or near play The Loop in both directions, it amazes me every time how different it can be! I also love the Bootlegger short course, lots of fun

Arcadia Bluffs, Bluffs Course is my favorite course I have played anywhere. Not cheap but the views are amazing.

Treetops and Shanty Creek are good resorts with many course options if you want to stay and play in one place.

    Belvedere is great

If you want something different there is Wawashkamo on Mackinac Island along with the Grand Hotel course. Wawashkamo’s history is pretty cool!!

Since you mentioned Lake Huron, the Gales and Red Hawk are nice as well.

Tons of great golf courses in Michigan, many kind of under the radar in my opinion. Hope you have a great trip!!
