So sad when golfers cant be trusted. The last of the honorable, self-policing sports and we have to carry our bags into the clubhouses... Shame!

Ugh. Sorry to hear this, drtaylorwright. It is the worst feeling having clubs stolen. I have been there and it is just awful.

I'm sorry to hear about the putter.. Hard to believe that people would do something like that.

So sorry to hear about your putter. We all get so attached to our club's, especially if they have Titleist on them. I would bet it was not a TT member. I would keep my eyes OPEN! The thief may return! Good luck!!

I have been lucky thus far in my life, but now that I have my Titleist bag and it is almost full I get very nervous when my bag isn't on my shoulder. Is there specific insurance either in Canada or the US that golfers can purchase for such incidents?

The sad truth is clubs are only reasonably safe at private courses. After a friend of mine had a 7 year old Cobra driver removed (retail value about $40) and others here that have had full bags removed, I keep my clubs with me like I would a 3 year old in a mall. I even shopped for an SUV that could fit a bag L to R and under a cover so that no one can see the clubs by looking in.

Sorry to hear about you loss. Years ago when I bought my first Scotty the good old boy in the pro shop told me to NOT use the Scotty head cover because they attract unwanted attention. I thought that was great advice so all my Scotty head covers are in a bag stored away in my basement and I use non-descript head covers on my putters when they are in my bag.

I have seen too many clubs walk away when their owners just stop in at the turn for a quick bite or break...I never let my clubs out of my site...I feel bad for the guys working the courses looking to help with golf bags...I tell them I don't let others handle my bag...I get the funniest looks but I have never lost or had a club walk off. I also use non branded head covers sometimes to disguise my prized clubs.

This is very unfortunate. What is the World coming to? A good lesson for all of us. The course I typically play at, I often after warming up and putting for a while, I will leave my golf cart by the putting green and go in for lunch before teeing off in an afternoon shotgun. I have never had an issue, but will be changing that practice now. With a full bag of titleist clubs including a Scotty Cameron Putter, it would kill me to suffer a loss like you have.

Hopefully the golfing gods will smile on you and you will be reunited with your pilfered putter. Fingers crossed!

I am sorry to hear that, you would think that in a sport such as golf, people would be honest and simply leave other players equipment alone. unfortunately, a Scotty is a treasure and some people have no moral code.
Never "lost" a before, have, however, "lost" a couple sleeves of balls that I left on top of my bag pre-round.
I have found and returned a lot of things in the past on the course, countless wedges, mostly found on greenside bunkers.

Sorry about your putter, that's terrible. I've had my head covers swiped multiple times and they're not even the limited edition ones.

I'd keep a watch out on Ebay to see if your putter shows up in a local or regional listing. Craigslist too. I have read about instances of non-golfers who dress as golfers and hang out like they are practicing around the putting green, who are only there to look for opportunities to steal clubs. It is usually at low end courses and munis, but these guys are looking for opportunities wherever they can blend in. Be on alert always.

One way to limit the opportunity for them is to keep your rain cover easily accessible. When you leave your bag, even for a quick trip inside to pick up your lunch order, or whatever, get in the habit of putting the rain cover on and zipping it up. It won't necessarily stop someone who wants to take your whole bag, or has noticed a particular club he wants that's in your bag, but it is certainly a deterrent to those just looking for a quick, pass-by opportunity to lift an expensive club. A, they can't easily see what's in your bag when it's all covered and zipped, and B, it's not so easy to unzip quickly, peruse the contents and get out the club they want in a second or two, as they might be able to do if it were uncovered.

I have not been covering my bag lately, but this thread is a reminder that my Titleist Mid-Staff bag, full of 14 top-of-the line Titleist clubs, including a Scotty, 917s, 818, Ap3 and AP2, is a very large target for some low class scum. I think I will go out to the garage and find my rain cover before I head to the course later today and take my own advice. .

Damn man, we have had some incidents of that lately ourself.
On my Crown & Cameron Newport I put a basic spider headcover so it wouldn't stand out from the crowd. ( also confession I the original dropped on out of my bag on a green after 3 holes I noticed it so I went back but it was no longer there..)

However after I received my 2018 select first of 500 I can't not show of the great headcover. I resort to always putting my bag in sight or stashing it in the car when I can't put my bag in sight.

I fear that is the price we have to pay for wanted gear.

Sorry to hear about your stolen putter. My putter and head cover go with me whether it's the bathroom or restaurant.
