Went to a 5. I need/feel I can see a line better with a longer alignment line. I also get over the ball better when I also went from a 34 to 33. I don't think it changes how I strike the ball, but I seem to be more accurate on hitting a line.

I seem opposite to most in that I have always liked mallets, switched to a blade and now am back to mallets.

Like Don, I switched to a shorter putter (34" from 35). It was after a Cameron Fitting Event this spring, which confirmed my need for longer alignment lines and a shorter putter (was standing too far away from the ball).

My fitter said people who struggle with alignment tend to do better w/ mallets, especially High MOI ones.

My current putter is a Futura 5S and I just purchased a used Red X2 as a back up (still have my original Red X).

I made the switch after 30+ years of blade style putters. I went to buy a scotty and was trying to determine if I liked the Newport 2 or 2.5 better. After I hit those for a while I decided to roll a few putts with the rest of their putters and immediately fell in love with the Futura 6M Dual Balance. I found it extremely easy to align putts (especially long putts) and I love the balance that it has with the two weights extended off the back. I have improved my putting immensely this summer and have been averaging just under 30 putts per 18 holes. I love my putter and would recommend to anyone to at least try it out at your local shop.

I've always been and all my previous ones are blade putters. A little more than two years ago, I switch to mallet, a Futura 5r which was a good move for me for a couple reasons.
1. I didn't have to worry so much about the arc- I like that I can put straight back and through.
2. I like the looks of mallet putters. (most of them)
3. I like the mass and feel it gives on solid putts.
4. My golf pro recommended the mallet for my use.

I made the switch a few years back mostly to help stabilize the head throughout the stroke. Been a good fit for me putts per hole is down and a few more birdies flying around as well.

I have the Select M 1, great putter. I just got a Super Rat, so I'll hold on to the M 1 as well.

I had an old TM putter that was not working for me, so I got my first Scotty.

My putting improved because I couldn't stop practicing with the new putter. The feel is great.

Only reason I got the Super Rat is because I loved the look of it.

My father is going to try my Mallet from his Newport blade. Likes the feel more.

I started with blade and went to mallet. I've been back using a blade for the past 2 years. Scotty California Hollywood. I've been thinking getting a Futura 5S but as the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke..."

I am gaming the X5 with a flow neck as I want the toe flow but want just that little more confidence or MOI over the ball.

Just that little more forgiveness to me is worth the bulk of a mallet putter

I know that it's me and not the club, but I've been missing some short putts lately (2 birds on Sunday) and I'm not happy. I'm thinking about making a change just to shake things up. I haven't liked the looks of a mallet, but Scotty is making them better looking. I think I'll have to give one a try and see how it turns out.

I'm a Newport guy...but i do have a 6M which is pretty amazing.
I usually practice with both. I'll always love the classic Scotty blade designs but his mallets are getting better each release.

I had bounced back and forth from a blade to a mallet. I was fitted and purchased the Futura 5W and it is the perfect combination.

I did the same thing

Used a png Anser 2 for many years. As I got older I wanted to change to a mallet after trying a few. 3 years ago I was fortunate to be able to go to the Butch Harmon Golf school at Floridian, the home of the incomparable Ryan Chrysler where we spent an hour trying several different Scotty's and the most consistently positive results were with the Futura X5R. I don't think there is a better way to tell, but if you're rollin' it the jar with your Newport, leave it alone.

I played a png pal 2 for almost 2 decades and went to upgrade to the Newport 2, but when I rolled a few with the future 6m dB I was sold. I’ve been putting the better than ever since I made the purchase. Love all Scotty ‘s but not giving mine up any time soon.

1. My distance control is much better with a mallet.
2. Much easier putting through the fringe.

I know mallets are better for a straighter back and forth swing, and blades are for more arc; however I do my best putting with a mallet swing and blade putter. I cant't explain why, but I'll add it to the list of my golf anomalies ha.

My eye is not happy with the look of any "Potato Masher"....Blade is pleasing

I was a png my day blade putter as a junior, but when i got back into golf 4 years ago I got fitted for the Scotty Cameron X5, fantastic putter, I upgraded that last year to the X7 model.
I don’t think I could ever go back to a blade now.

Am currently using Select Newport 2, which is quite a deep but still a bladed putter.
I've been using wider putters every time I change and must take the set up to a mallet next.
I've tested this theory by trying (but not buying!!) other brand mallets
They seem to be easier to align... perhaps my eyes are going...
Anyway, those new black Scotty look the business.

I started with a Dunlop blade and in my first year, one round I hit 11 putts in 9 holes with 3 birdies. A lot of those were over 15 feet. Over the next 20 years I played mostly mallets, as they make me confident, feel more solid and are straight back and through. I've experimented with blades over that time, but don't feel as confident, especially over short putts. Too much timing in the arc stroke. Prefer straight stroke.

Also I agree that shorter length is probably better for proper alignment. A putt is the one shot the golfer can get his head and eyes directly over the start line, and there's no better way to check alignment. If your eyes are inside the line, you're just guessing. You should be able to drop a ball from the bridge of your nose and hit the ball you're putting. A shorter shaft forces your head to get over the ball, a la Nicklaus.

Started with a blade and moved into a Newport Studio Select. Didnt like it and felt loose in my hands on off center hits. Moved into a Golo5r, feels more stable and has better forgiveness for my swing. Feels like butter too.

I can't control distance with a mallet for some reason. Just loses some feel for me anyway. Line is great (and I think maybe easier to control line) but I generally hammer them past the hole with the mallet. 2015 (i.e. pre-insert) Select Newport 2 is what I keep coming back to time and again.
