Do tour pros use custom insoles/orthotics?

    Any Team Titleist members have any feedback on custom orthotics or inserts? Curious if pros wear them? I recently made a trip to a Good Feet store in San Antonio, TX just to see. They did a balance test vs my normal inserts and was shocked by the difference. I suffer from arch pain and lower back pain primarily when wearing dress shoes at work. Their inserts seems to really take pressure off the heal of the foot and lower back as well. I did not buy them because there were pricey and I also thought I need to ask Team Titleist first! :) The potential relief of pain and better balance really got me thinking how that could translate into golf? Thanks for any feedback! Not as exciting as talking about the latest Titleist products but my I will admit my life would be better without sore feet from work shoes and that would lead to more fun on the course.

    i have arch pain too and i just bought orthotics  and they help tremendously its crazy idk if they do or not but i think they should

    I use orthotics in all my FJ Golf shoes...unfortunately it is a requirement due to foot issues over the last couple of years...guess I am getting old!!!!!! LOL

    I'm certainly no pro, but I've had 2 bouts of planter fasciitis that have literally put me to my knees. I tried running through the arch pain. ...Just like a guy. I now use commercial orthotics virtually all the time, including dress shoes if I'm going to be on my feet for a long day. I haven't had an issue in several years, now. I've paid for custom orthotics in the past, but I can buy several of the orange and green ones for the same amount - and do. I started golf to walk more, so I won't go back to custom ones just to run. I was fitted for my first commercial pair at a local running store.

    Don't know about the pro's but with the amount of walking that they do their shoes must be a pretty important part of their equipment.  I walk 18 a day and have three pairs of shoes.  My latest addition is a pair of spikeless that are much lighter than the the other two pairs, the soles are much more flexible, and they are generally much more comfortable over 18 holes with no problems with the feet or lower back.  The other two pairs are now cart shoes only.  I can't say that the new shoes had an impact on score but they have sure added more enjoyment and relief from aching feet during a round on foot.

    I just started using orthotics recommended by my chiropractor. I have noticed it has helped me tremendously with my lower back pain after my rounds. The brand I got through my chiro's office is called Foot Levelers (~$200). I swap them out of my everyday shoes and they fit well inside my FootJoy DNA's. If you walk 18 I would highly suggest getting them.

    Chris, if you have foot issues and the orthotics help, i think you should use them.  Although it's good to know if pros or Team Titleist crew use them, i wouldn't let that dictate my decision.

    Full disclosure here as I am the President of an orthopedic shoe company called Pedors Shoes that markets primarily to elderly patients in need of specialty footwear. But there's a real story here about how I discovered that one of my own orthotic products really helped my own golf game. I've published the story to my blog on the company website and also my theories as to how an orthotic could drastically help someone's game.
