I have a Titleist TS3 driver with Hzrdus Smoke Black low spin shaft. I have never hit my driver better. I have the same shaft in my TS2 fairway wood, and do not hit that club nearly as well. Low trajectory with a loss of distance. Would appreciate any thoughts as to whether it is me, or whether I should have a high trajectory shaft in the fairway wood. Thank you.

Could be your driver swing is a bit different than your fairway swing. I ended up with 4 different shafts in my driver (Ventus Blue), 3 wood (Tensei AV Blue), 19 degree hybrid (Atmos Red), and U510 4 iron (Smoke Black). My swing is considered pretty moderate and smooth but for some reason the 4 shafts work out best for me. The Tensei does provide more loft & spin than the others I tried.

Best advice is to get fit for the right shaft, but I wouldn’t think that shaft would cause a significant drop in distance.
  4. When the TS2 came out I was fitted for the hazardous smoke grey 6.0, was very happy with it. Later that year, I was fitted for a TS3 3 wood, with Mitsubishi Tensei blue, and I had issues losing it left.

Fast forward to this year, and I was fit for TSI2, with Hazardous smoke RDX 6.0 across my driver/3w/5w and I couldn't be happier! I can really go after the fairway woods, or choke down on them to take a little off with no issues.

    Just my experience!

Smoke black has a very stiff mid section and I had trouble with too much spin using that shaft even though it’s considered low spin.

I went with Diamana DF in the driver and Ventus blue in fairway woods and could t be happier. I like a little more feel in the mid section and got a proper fit to find the one that worked for me.

I play the Fujikura Tour Speeder shafts in all my woods/metals. I am 74+, 6'2', 250lbs, 93 mph clubhead speed, and they seem to fit me well, having been fitted. They give me my best results. Even able to get the Motore Speeder Tour Spec 8.8 HD for my hybrids.

Yea it could be the shaft working against you. I'd try the Project X even flow, Riptide, or smoke yellow, or blue RDX.

I know the smoke yellow and blue state low spin, but they are a lot different than the black.

The yellow has a very weak mid section. In fact, I play it the yellow in a stiff flex, and no part of it is actually stiff. The ends are close to X and the middle is regular. Really cool stuff.

If the ball is launching low I would look at the driver head and loft sleeve to dial it in. If you’re not delivering the club with a positive attack angle and/or striking low in the face shaft is only going to help so much. Launch monitor is going to be your friend. If that’s not available try some foot spray on the club face to see where you’re striking it.
