It has gotten warmer over most of the US, warm enough for people to have some experience with the 2016 irons and hybrids. I have 2014 AP2s and 915 HDs and wonder how the 2016 clubs compare?

I traded in my 714 AP2's for the new 716's. I played my first round with them yesterday and they are everything I hoped they would be. I play at a 15 in the club I play with and this is the third set of AP2's I've had. They just look good to me when I set up. But I am always looking for little more forgiveness and the new 716's do just that. I hit so many great shots with them I really couldn't believe it and my playing partners noticed it also. To be truthful, I said the same thing about the 714's when I first played with them. But the 716's are really easy to hit, and they also very beautiful to look down at. Titleist got it right when they say they are the most forgiving one they've made.

I had a chance to hit both the irons and hybrids at my local Titleist Thursday last week. I experienced a noticeable difference between the new 816 H1 and the 915H. The new 816 launched lower, spun higher (400 rpm), and I gained an extra 2mph in ball speed. All of those numbers gave me a straighter ball flight, better stopping power and an extra 5 yards carry distance.
  4. I had the 2014 versions and I purchased the 2016 updates....(AP's and Hybrids)....I can honestly say there was a huge upgrade on the irons and the hybrids had a modest upgrade...thus I would consider updating your set if you have the money.

    IMHO

I finally pulled the trigger on a new set of AP1s. I had the 712 AP1s and looked at 714, but not much improvement so I passed. Went through two different fittings with AP 1: First to narrow down the shafts. Second, a separate "fresh" fitting of the final 2 shafts. Decided on Nippon 950. Both fittings with Chad and Steve Pence in South Carolina. These guys are true professionals. They were patient and very open about the numbers and their thoughts.

All I can say is - WOW - I made the right decision. Not only are the clubs longer, which I expected from the new loft angles; but more importantly the ball flight is both higher and more boring/penetrating. Played a two full rounds plus practice afterwards and they are outstanding. This is without a doubt the softest feeling longest irons I have ever hit. Plus, they are still workable, which makes the game so much fun.

So, thanks to Chad & Steve for their time and expertise. And, thanks to Titleist for making such great equipment.

I'll give you a pretty good honest review. I started with a new set of T-MB, full line up from 3 iron through P wedge in the Steel Fiber 110g shaft, crazy expensive set of clubs but I was coming from the MB's and thought enough of the blade thing, I want to really improve my game and use what the fitter says is best for me. I spent a lot of money going to a fitter near me and the T-MB was what we came away with... after playing a few rounds it just wasn't for me. Sure I had more distance, sure I had more forgiveness but my game just felt all over the place.
I made a hard decision and decided to go back to what most blade guys end up doing, I sold the TMB's and ordered the 716 MB's with Tour Issue AMT S400 shaft. I can't tell you how much better and consistent these clubs are for me. I love the 716 mb and I'm telling you, if you want to learn how to hit irons better and become a better ball striker try these out, my scoring and distance control, dispersion and such are incredible, I also finally found the right shaft and am in love with this set up.
Now for the hybrids. I had some gapping with my 3 iron (which is crazy easy to hit by the way... yes I'm talking about the 716 mb) and my 5 wood and decided to try the 816 H1 19 degree, makes sense right? Every golf shaft I asked said they haven't sold too many and said guys are saying it's just not consistent, I also noticed not many tour pros are playing them and still use the 915 hybrids.
I took it out to the course and unfortunately felt the same way... yes it was easy to hit, but wasn't in love with the sound, feeling and quality of the shots I was producing.. soooo.... I went to a new golf store here in Sandy, Utah and I had them put a 7 wood head in a 5 wood shaft.... it is absolutely the best set up for me... I now have a perfect gap between 3 iron and my next club that being a 7 wood in a 5 wood length shaft... I'm also having the 16.5 3 wood, really a 4 wood, shipping to me today because the 15 degree goes so dang far it's not too far behind my driver.
Putters... yup, been there to. Started with the new Newport but it wasn't working for me which surprised me because I love the Newport, just not the new sight line. But I felt like I needed some guidance so I went with the new M2 mallet putter and the heavier weight gives me much better roll and I'm loving it.
I've tried everything.. AP1, Ap2, CB and MB... it took years to fine tune everything but finally have something I love and it works for me. Others I'm sure will disagree, but I love Titleist, I love golf, and now I love all my clubs.
Hope something may help you out...
  7. 816H2 speeder shafts are excellent prob not for everyone though only con I have is they are not as workable as they should be they just want to go straight
