It's not for everyone. Experiment with other models like ProV1 or ProV1x or better yet, do the ball fitting.

What is the issue with the ball? As advertised it is a distance ball with low flight. I have played the ball and it performed well. If you are looking for a ball that has a higher flight, go with the Prov1x. Agree with my right honorable friend, Dale, do the ball fitting. You also can click on balls above do the comparisons of the various golf balls. Titleist makes a golf ball for everyone's game.

That’s a pretty vague question. The likely answer is it’s the player not the ball. The ball does what you tell it to do. If it’s not flying low, it’s probably because you produce a high ball flight
  7. I love the ball as an alternative to the ProV1. It goes slightly farther but keeps a high spin rate around the greens with soft feel!

The AVX does what it says it does; a true low flier.I had a bad scuff mark on my Pro V1X and had one of my foursome toss me a ball from my bag, as I took the damaged ball out of play. I really didn't look at the new ball as I teed it up.I made a good swing/solid contact, but the ball never attained my normal flight pattern. I was wondering why, until I reached my tee shot.

Yup....it was an AVX. I bought a sleeve to try, but they flew too low for me. I thought I took them out of my bag, but one must have eluded me.
  9. Agreed...no "issue" but I do see a noticeably lower ball flight when compared with the Pro V1 and V1x...as advertised. Interesting trade off that I've been toying around with this summer...I'm heading back to the Pro V1 for the higher flight and spin.

I agree with Barry that they do not float. The AVX also does not always appear when it's hit in the rough and it does not always react well with bark and branches. I have tested the ball under these unfavorable conditions and have come to the conclusion that it is me not the ball!

Keep up the good work Lance. If it weren't for guys like you and me, Titleist would never know what direction to go with ball improvements. The rest of you can thank us later.

3rd round with the AXV ball, fly's true, and just the right amount of spin green side.
  13. Any thought on Titleist either discontinuing AVX or renaming it and moving it to the "amateur" line with Tour Speed and the other balls in the Titleist lineup?

Seems to me the best roadmap would be

    "Pro line"

    Prov1
    Prov1 left dot
    Prov1x
    Prov1x left dash

    "Amateur line"

    Tour Speed
    Velocity
    Tour Soft
    Trufeel

Seems AVX is getting squeezed from tour speed and lefyt dot in the market place.

unless they change the AVX and call it something else to align with the rest of the lineup, i do not see this product lasting......

You likely will never see Titleist differentiating their balls into "pro or amateur" categories. They are pretty clear about marketing their ball for all players at every level. The AVX is a high-performance ball and is manufactured that way which is reflected in the retail price. Pricing categories is a better way to group the golf balls. I agree with your naming point being somewhat linked between the three price categories for the balls and maybe that will be something that changes over time. I am not sure I agree with the AVX getting squeezed out as there is a significant volume of AVX users in both the white and yellow colors. Back to the "pro" issue. Titleist recommends (and I personally agree with) a player of any ability is better off playing the best ball they can afford. Sure, if you cannot break 100 because you lose 10 balls a round, that gets pretty expensive. But, if you shoot in the low to mid-80's like me and rarely lose a ball, I should not feel like a "pro" ball is not for me. Again, just glad they have so many great options for all golfers of all abilities. See you next week. Fingers crossed on the weather. :)

I don't see that happening anytime soon. Titleist just released a new version of the AVX this year and from my understanding it's still a great Alternative to the V1 and V1x. Just as a reminder, the AVX compared against the ProV1 flies lower, spins less and feels softer.

As others have said, a virtual or in person ball fitting will lead you to the correct path.

I don't see that happening, nor do I believe it should, particularly after taking a respite last year from the AVX in 2021 and revisiting the new 2022 version this year. I was truly amazed at the performance. For many players, it is the real deal. Me included.

I'm now 65+ (which kills me to admit), with an approximate 94-97 mph driver swing speed (at last fitting). However, uncharacteristically for my vintage, I am also a low, single-digit hdcp. My drives are as long or longer with the AVX as they were with the V1x. I get more release/rollout with the AVX. I lean heavily on my better-than-average short game, and the AVX has not hurt that one bit. My irons are definitely a bit longer. And in wind, there is no comparison. AVX is the clear winner for me. Certainly I can't control it like the best players on Tour, but having played Pro V1 and 1x for the last 15 years, the AVX gives me similar, and in some cases even better results.

I also manage a pro shop at a high end, very difficult course, where the typical player there can tell the difference. Surely, we sell more Pro V1 and 1x than any other ball we carry, but we sell a ton of AVX, too. We have a hard time keeping them on the shelves. There is no way the AVX should be considered anything less than a Tour quality ball, because, it absolutely is and was designed to be.

The story goes, as I and others have mentioned here in the past, the A.V.X. is the equal A.lternate to the V. and X.

Excellent post Doug. I too have also found the AVX to be an excellent ball. I like in that it does have more roll out and same action on greens as I have with the V & VX. I went after these when first introduced in California, Arizona and Florida. I purchased 5 dozen at that time when I was in Fla.

The AVX is a great ball and a lot of seniors are getting a lot of enjoyment out of it. Do not see it going anywhere. I work (part time as a Tournament Support Rep for the District FJ rep for the Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Hilton Head, Savannah area) side by side at pro/ams and member/guest with the Titleist reps and they are in demand. They always provide the Prov1, Prov1x and the AVX at these events. People like the distance with less spin.
  19. I am 66 and don't have the speed in my swing anymore and I love the AVX and the Tour Speed also.
