I recently went to a local pro shop, and got an unofficial ball fitting. Unofficial meaning, the staff is not trained to officially fit for a ball, however, they do have GC Quads, and can tell you which ball meets your desired spin and flight. I ended up switching to the ProV1x over the AVX, with the AVX being second, ProV1 being third.

I do like the higher ball flight, but the lower driver spin is intriguing. I haven’t had a chance to play since switching to the ProV1x, but I’m hoping the increased spin does not turn my “cut” into a “slice”. Has anyone gone through a Virtual Fitting? Is it helpful?

I’m wondering if the -ProV1x would be worth trying. (After playing the ProV1x on the course first)

Well Mitch, I would question their data if the order went ProV1x, then AVX, then ProV1 as the manufactures data has the ProV1x as the highest spin and then ProV1, and lastly AVX. If you are looking to minimize side spin then the AVX would be best as it's shallow dimples is how it minimizes spin. The downside will be height of shots compared to what you will get with ProV1x. I use ProV1x because with my slow swing speed I do not generate much spin with any ball. I must rely on height to land steeply to hold greens. Before you stock up with a bunch, just get a few of each and "field test" them until you decide which one works best for your needs. Yes, the official virtual fitting is helpful here but even better are actual Titleist outdoor fittings when you can find them. Cheers.

The best ball is the one that gets into the hole the fastest. Depending on how well the ball is struck by all your clubs, testing for driver spin and launch is only a partial answer. There are those that caution against using/depending on technology too much. The perhaps dull recommendation to test balls from the greens backward is still of value to fine tune the choice.

10 years ago when I started, I felt that NXT would slice into the rough and a Pro-V would slice into the next county. Now, my usual fade doesn’t dissolve into a slice without help from my swing mechanics. If I could just fix me…. Trialing Velocity on days with sustained winds of 25+ mph, they both perform as badly on my slicing swing.

Like Dale, my best shot to maximize the greens held is withe the -X with my swing speed. My best distance with irons is the AVX, but that is only a partial score. I can 2 putt more than get up & down from the edges.

I understand that regarding spin and ball flight, ProV1x is the highest and AVX is the lowest. Based on the simulation numbers, the ProV1x provided me the best distance, with AVX coming in second.

Thanks for the clarification. Looks like you are mainly looking for driver distance. Like Don said, most Titleist fittings suggest you match your ball from the green, backwards, with driver distance being the least important. I know that's a hard one to swallow, especially if you are like me and sometimes struggle to reach Par 4 holes in two. The theory being that holding shots on greens should be more important than the difference of hitting one less club into a green as more amateurs make par from putting than from chipping or bunker shots. There is no "one size fits all" answer so I stick with my earlier suggestion to play several types a few times and then lock into one before you stock up. I also buy into the believe that once you lock into a ball, stick with it and get used to it's feel, trajectory, performance and you will play better than switching around often and getting different results. Probably a greater factor the better one gets at the game. Have fun out there in Army/NASA country!

At the end of the day you have to play what works for you. I am a ProV1x player and didn't really like the feel around the green. I wanted something that felt softer which the ProV1 is. However after play testing both balls, I am sticking to the X. My reasoning was while I could hit the ProV1 a touch farther and it was softer around the green it did not flight out of the window I was looking for. It flighted lower or on a more boring trajectory which to my eye appeared that it was not going to hold a green.

The ProV1 did hold greens for me but I just did not like the window it was launching at. It can be as simple as that when selecting a ball to play. You have to play what works for you.

Yes, you are to go from the green backwards but much like Dale said, I'd rather use height to stop the ball than spin. Higher I can launch it, steeper it will come down, faster it will stop.
