  1. We found this ball in the tree while cutting wood and are trying to figure out how long it may have been there. It is a DT Titleist 2 Any ideas when this ball was manufactured?

I heard that if you cut a Titleist ball in half and count the rings, you can tell how old it is.

There is no telling how long the ball has been in the tree. Someone may have found that ball and put it in the tree as a joke. Some of us are pranksters and do things like that when we find old beat up balls and think that ball would fall under that category. The ball is probably from the 90's. There were a number of DT balls manufactured and believe the red 2 indicates it was a 100 compression ball. With respect. Cheers.

I had an old pro v1 that I had in my old ball section of my bag. I teed off on a 125 yd par 3. Now to set the stage, as a 73 old senior, I had water to cover and I do not like to hit a new pro v1 in the water, as I have done in the past. Incidentally, I’m a 30+ handicap so I don’t always hit it right. Well, I had the sun in my face (Florida)and I luckily hit it pure and it hit in the hole for a hole in 1. I didn’t even see it because of the sun. I looked all over and one of my buddies said to look in the hole and to my amazement the old pro v1 was there! I just wish I could have seen it.

A great place to tell this wonderful story and experience on the below site. You can also register to get a pewter bag tag in honor of your accomplishment. Congratulations and I am sure there is another one out there waiting for you.

Being that I played the DT from the late 80's until I switched to the Pro V1, I think that I can answer this fairly accurately. The ball in the tree is from the 1980's. The red numbers indicated 90 compression and black indicated 100 compression. In the 1990's the DT was moved to a side stamp with compression number. When the DT went from wound to 2 piece construction, the compression numbers were removed and the red number was retained. This is my recollection, so if I'm a little off on something, please feel free to correct me.
