So I've done the ball selector and I've been fitted into a pro v 1. But I would like some help to narrow it down. I hit the ball high with my irons and i generate alot of spin on full shots my driver has a high flight but spin is okay. And finally which is the better ball for greenside control. Thanks, Team Titleist people for all your help. Oh I'm currently playing a Chrome soft x

  2. Hey smartin, finding the right ball for your game, likes/dislikes is the key. I have played the new 2019 prov1s, prob 1xs, and the AVXs to see which I prefer. Here is my experience with them all and hopefully it’ll help you when choosing which ball you play with:

ProV1 - Soft feel around the green and with my irons. A lot more feel when putting this ball as well.

ProV1x - this spins the most out of these 3 balls and had the highest ball flight. I typically play this ball in scrambles to get a little more distance on my drives and long irons. The noticeable difference of this ball for me is around the green. It spins so much you have to adjust landing points for pitch shots because it will check and stay much easier. It is a noticeably harder ball so the feel on putting it is an adjustment as well.

AVX - this is the lowest ball flight but adds about a club/club and a half distance on all my irons. Because of the lower ball flight it’s perfect for windy days but very difficult to get to check and stop on faster greens. You almost have to be a half club short and let it release up to the hole. It doesn’t feel as firm putting and chipping, but an adjustment chipping needs to be made too because it’s harder to get it to check and stop.

Based on your description of your game, you get plenty of height and spin already on your irons and are looking for more feel around the green. I’d agree with your fitting, that the ProV1 is the ball you're looking for. But, I would also recommend to buy a sleeve at the clubhouse of each and play a round with each ball. It won’t take long to see what fits your game and feel.

Hope this helps! If there’s any more information you’d like to know based on my experiences, please feel free to ask!

Definitely not the ProV1x for you. It's now their highest flying, highest spinning ball. Best way is to get a sleeve of the ProV1 and the AVX and play a few rounds with each to see what works best for you. I would guess the AVX but so many factors like feel and sound are tied to your personal choice. Both are great balls. Good luck and enjoy!

All will have low spin off the driver. For flight, the launch will be lower with AVX, highest with X, and "middle" with the V. This also correlates to green side spin. You'll need to match iron flight and green side control through trial and error. For soft feel, the soft x may be closest to the V.
  5. Find the same launch angle with AVX but decreased distance, does anyone have an opinion on this?
  6. That’s interesting. Do you have the information on the launch angle and spin rate for both the AVX and the ProV? If you’re getting the same launch, that would explain the loss in distance as it’s designed for a lower trajectory to stay under the wind as best as possible. But I’d say this is an example of why it’s a great idea to get fitted for balls as well as clubs.
  7. I would say ProV since you hit it high & have a lot of spin. That’s what I play for better feel with my irons, wedges, & putting. Plenty of distance off the driver too. Nice ball flight.

I play the ProV1x primarily because the spin from the short irons is so good. In reality I probably should be playing the ProV1 but like they say, if it ain't broke........
  9. i like both pro v's but stay mostly with the plain one. the prov x does seem to go farther.

Pro v1 ticks all the boxes for my game, sounds the same for you buddy.
But every now and again the AVX ball comes out the bag on very windy and wet Scottish summers day lol
  11. Hi all,

I'm looking for some help with the golf ball as well. I've never really paid too much attention to the ball, but generally use either a Pro V1 or a Pro V1x.
My problem shot is always with my driver - I generally play a fade, but that can turn into a slice when I'm not on my game - I'm looing for something to help minimise the spin (possibly?)

I launch the ball fairly low, impact on Trackman was between -1 and -3 degrees.

I've been fitted for both driver and irons (I'm UK based, and had some time with Precision Golf for my fitting).
    Driver is a 915 D2 and irons are 716 AP2's.

Ball 99 times out of a 100 comes off the middle of the face, but my swing can let me down, and when the slice appears it can be really quite damaging.

Irons I don't generally miss with, the issues have always been with my driver swing annoyingly.

Obviously lessons will help more than a ball, but at least be nice to know the differences primarily between the Pro V1 and the Pro V1X and chose accordingly.

    Thanks all

  12. I hit the ball low with both irons and driver, plus I don't spin it enough. For my Pro V1x is clearly better all around.

The fact that you're the opposite (high flight, lots of spin) tells me you might not be the best fit for Pro V1x.

I also like the AVX but it's not quite as good at green holding plus it flies lower off my driver. So I'm sticking with Pro V1x. You'd probably like the trajectory and spin characteristics of AVX but not sure it's the best Titleist ball for short game control.

Therefore my suggestion is to get the best of both worlds with Pro V1. It's the compromise ball, as much short game control as Pro V1x but with spin and trajectory a little more like AVX.
