Pro V1 vs DT TruSoft

    Just watched a Mark Crossfield You Tube piece comparing the Pro V1 to the DT TruSoft https://youtu.be/G5yvBudCEgU (I am a Pro V1 guy). The Pro V1 held more consistent spin numbers, but I noticed the TruSoft backed up more on his approach shots. My approaches with the Pro V1 typically stop immediately or after a hop and stop or slight roll out, but only spin back with full 9 and wedges. Have any of you compared the two? Any comments?

    Hi PArthur, I know the video of which you speak of. I was one of the first to watch it yesterday when it came online. I will say this about the video - I liked his methodology of hitting the different shots with the ball and not just relying on driver speed.

    Yet, in the situation in which you referred, it was his 7-iron approaches to the green. The one DT Trusoft that he managed to back up was if you listen carefully, a much better struck shot - at least it sounded that way to me. So, I think it is safe to consider that one shot as an "outlier". His main point was that the Pro V balls performed more consistently and the spin/control characteristics of the Pro V was very consistent - even when his shots were not always cleanly struck. I have watched most of his videos on ball testing and I have noticed that the Pro V balls have consistently performed more consistently than any of the other brands premium balls.

    His other main point is that much of the golf ball fitting comes down to feel and what the individual golfer prefers in feel. I have played the Trusoft this past winter - it was simply to try a different ball and to see how it felt compared to the Pro V1x that I normally play. I do this because conditions get very damp and easy to lose balls that plug so I really am not fond of losing a new Pro V1x or Pro V1 with a shot just on the fringe of the green that happens to plug or a tee shot in the fairway that plugs. My experience with the Trusoft is that it was more difficult to control the ball on and around the green ... but I also attribute that to the fact that I am used to the performance of my Pro V1x and know how it will perform for me. Mark's usual ball is not the Pro V series. Anyway, just my two cents worth.

    He used to play ProV. He is very familiar with it.

    Great info. Nice that you have all the tools to perform these tests. Do you work for Titleist? I also like the trusoft however use it in colder weather here on Long Island.

    Hi Fred, ... thanks for the compliment! But, no, I do not work for Titleist. Like you I am an enthusiastic member of Team Titleist. I follow plenty of golf-related blogs, videos, etc. online just to sate my golf appetite!

    I wish I had the tools that Mark had ... he has a nifty launch monitor that he used to gauge the spin on the various balls, etc. I found his "testing" to be a fair validation of the Pro V and indeed of the entire Titleist line of golf balls and their performance.

    Fred ... what were your perceptions of the Trusoft? There was a fair bit of positive reaction to the ball when it came to market last season - much of it by our fellow TT'ers.

    I have not but I sure am interested! I use ProV1X but lately been using the trusoft ball. The cost difference is huge!!!

    Guys I have played with the Pro V1X pretty much since I became a good enough golfer to play a better ball. Before that though, I used to play with the titlest DT solo. Why? Because it is cheaper. As you know the truesolf ball is a mixture of the old dtsolo and the soft compression of a pro v. Now to the facts.

    When playing a pro v ball I have entirely to much spin on all shots. For someone like me who creates a high ball flight I don't need a ball that stops on the fairway with a rollout of 5 yards. I don't need a ball to check up on a green from 150 because I hit the ball high, not a low trajectory where I need soft.

    My point is this I switched to the truesoft about halfway through the summer this year to try it. It has made a world of difference in my game. I have been able to get to a plus handicap for the first time. My drives are about 7-10 yards longer an I still get consistent spin on wedge shots and long irons. No you can't spin a ball out of a bad lie from 10 yards. The ball will roll out, but it does with a prov as well.

    So if your like me and you need a ball to preform like a pro v but with less spin the truesoft is the best ball. I don't care if it is the cheapest ball titlest makes. Its still made by titlest and it is a great ball. If I can break par using a true soft, then you can break your par too!!
