  1. I'm not that fast in clubhead speed. But which ball is right for my 95 ish mph driver clubhead speed. Thanks!

You will find many post here asking the questions. Basically, SS is a big misconception. I would test each ball against each other of the driver, irons, wedges, and putting. To me, I see the biggest difference in feel when putting. The V1 is softer.

My clubhead speed is 93 and I play a Prov1. This was based on what Titleist recommended for me. I had no ideas my club head speed when he recommended the ball for me. I pick the ball and do not produce a lot of spin and that was figured into his recommendation. If you look at the back of a box of Titleist premium balls they look five areas: Short Game Control, Distance, Feel, Driver Spin, Flight. What do you want out of the Prov? Distance or more short game control?

I think more goes into it than just club speed. But for the record, I'm about 92 MPH driver ss. It's mostly about personal preference on feel and sound and short game. I have no problems playing the ProV. I like it for the softness off the wedges and putter around the green.

I'm sure the X is just as good, but I've had great results with the ProV and hadn't felt a need to try the X. Although at times I've wondered if I would get a few more yards off the tee with the X.

It does come down to personal performance and preference. Even though I'm slowest speed in responses, both balls perform near the green, but I like the click on a well struck pitch from the V1x, and subjectively, I get better distance with it.

My club head speed is in the 90's also and the Prov1 works well for me. For your club head speed you will enjoy hitting it with your driver! The ball has great feel and distance!!!
  7. Around the green, the v1 and v1x are nearly identical. My home course had a Titleist ball fitting and they said the difference was with the driver. The v1x spins a little less off the tee and launches a little higher. The main difference I notice is feel with the v1x being a harder feeling ball.
  8. I personally find a little more forgiveness off the tee and on longer fairway shots with the v1x. Within 20 yards of the green, they feel the same to me and spin the same. The v1x used to be noticeably harder feeling around the green but whatever they did in the last couple of years have made them feel very similar around the green.......Also, don't get hung up on swing speed. Where I really notice the difference of the v1 or v1x is when I am chipping from above the green and don't have a lot of green to work with......the ball bounces once and stops beautifully, even on a fast green.........From that perspective, the v1 and v1x are second to none........

I am around a 95 MPH swing speed as well and play the v1. However, this is not what I used to make my decision. I bought 3 of each ball and played them for a few rounds, I ultimately chose the v1 as I like the softer feel with wedges and putter. I think ss is a common misconception and the best way to find the best fit for you is to do an on course eval. I also have found that I can hit my driver straighter and longer with the v1 than the v1x. That goes against what they should be but I guess it just fits my swing better. Both are great balls, everyone is different though so try them both.
  10. Several years ago I was given a box of 2013 ProV1x. Even though I'm a low clubhead speed golfer with a double-digit handicap they worked great for me. Really high ball flight off the driver with plenty of hang time (hard to achieve with a 90mph swing!) yet my tee shots still run out nicely once they land. And from pretty much the first hole they seemed to be very predictable and controllable when chipping, putting and especially on the bump and run type pitch shots I like to play.

A year or so later I started thinking surely I must be missing something by using the firmer ProV1x instead of the softer ProV1 with my swing speed. So I tried a dozen of them and there seemed to be very little difference on irons shots, wedge shots or around the green. But I did think the ProV1 flew a bit lower and seemed to cost me a couple yards carry distance with the driver,, compared to the ProV1x.

So I've been back with the ProV1x ever since. A couple or three or four yards of driver distance is no big deal but hey, both models are the same price so I'll go with the one that's (even slightly) longer.

I don't think you're missing out on much if you pick the "wrong" version of ProV1 but most people seem to prefer one or the other after giving them a tryout. So I'd recommend giving them both a chance and see which one you like.
  11. I've been playing ProVs for over a decade. I've played the X and the V1 side by side many many times trying to figure out which is best for me. I've settled into hitting the ProV1x most of the time I like the extra distance I get with it on off hits and I really don't see that much difference around the greens. Now I will say that I like the feel of the V1 better than the X but I get about 10 more yards off the tee with the X so I've given up the "most" excellent feel. BUT and it's a big one. If it is below 65* outside I will use the ProV1. Not sure if it really helps me or not but I just like the way the V1 feels when cold as opposed to the X when it gets cold. Besides it makes me believe I am doing something clever and have an advantage over the other guys. Whether I do or not it's fun to think so.

Until you try both, you will never know. I personally like the pro v1 just because it is softer. But I cannot see any big difference between the two when I switch them back and forth.

    Grindelwald,

try the Pro V1 or even go to a softer ball.
