I was recently playing some balls that I have just laying in the bottom of my bag. I hit an old Pro V1 into the water on a secod hole par 3. I found another Pro V1 in the water but it was not mine. Is there a difference in quality and distance when you use a ball that has essentially been sitting in water for a week?

    Hi Roch,

    Thanks for the question.

It is tough to predict the performance of golf balls that have been in water, mainly because there is no way of knowing exactly how long they have been there. If a golf ball has been in the water for any significant amount of time it would not perform very well at all. For this reason, we often suggest that golfers should avoid playing these balls.

    Hope this helps,

    Bubba

Roch, I play a lot of balls that I have found in the water. One way to know if a ball has been in the water a long time, there will be sedimentation ring around the ball where it has been sitting in the mud and another sign if a lot of algae covers the ball. If you find a ball that does not exhibit these characteristics it has probably not been in the water too long and should be perfectly fine.

I would not play any ball that was pulled from a water hazard....it has already shown its previous owner that it has a desire to go swimming what is to say it will not abandon you the same way!

Remember that the ball goes into the water not because it wants to but because it has to.

As an old course marshall, I have pulled more balls out of water than I could hit. I was lucky that management allowed me to keep any and all titliest balls that I wanted. I used all the Prov's that I found unless the cover was cut or some other way compromised. I never found a bit of diff between the water balls and brand new. If they were shown to having been in the water for a long time, in other words the stains could not be cleaned off, I did not use them. I have been using used balls for over a year now that I get online. I am 70 years old. and before I revieved a partial tear of my rt. rotator cuff, 75% torn, I was driving the ball on the average of 220 to 230 yards. I am 5'7" and 170#, So you see I am not a big hunk, a medium hunk. LMAO
