I'm a 16 handicap with a slow swing speen. I need more distance off the T. I am fairly good on and around the greens. I use NXT but not sure which one I should be using Tour, Tour S or Velocity Chuckman

I'd like to see a chart made available to customers indicating which ball is best for what swing speed. For example I know my driver swing speed is in the 125mph range and I use the Pro v1x. When I use a DT so/lo ball it tends to go the same distance as a pro v1x so which should I use? P.S. I use the v1x for the 180yrds and in spin control. I then switch to the So/lo on the putting green as the soft ball is too soft. For your question I'm not sure that there is a dramatic difference between the NXT ball brands for swing speed. If there was then you wouldn't have all these other brands. I believe the difference is in the dimple patterns and materials used in making them. Can you give more info on ball speed and swing speed for your 6iron and driver so we can make a better assessment? If a ball works good for you around the greens then I'd say keep it. That represents 70% of any score.

At slower swing speeds, distance and spin probably don't make much difference.  Titleist says that most balls don't vary on distance by as much as 10 yards, and at 85 head speed/130 ball speed, most likely less.  The biggest variables I can discern is good ball striking and feel.  My distance is not great, but I'm more likely to stay in the fairway, so E6/E7/NXT all work well, but I can look at the Tour/Tour S for feel.  ProV1 works well, but I'll need to work on getting more spin in my short game.  Lobbing onto the green is as good as it gets, since nothing hit lower checks for me. Bless those of you that can tell which one checks better.

I probably won't try a Velocity as going straight is not my issue.  And I cry less when an occasional fade catches a water hazard when it is an NXT and not a ProV1.  When I had more side spin issues, I definitely had more NXTs in the fairway than a ProV or Z-Star (you can follow yellow optic Tour balls further into the woods...)

Definitely agree that what works best for you under 150 yards will be your best ball if you can keep it in the fairway getting there.

  4. See Tom Wishom's book Search for the Perfect Club. How far do you hit your driver vs. your 3 wood? Slower swing speeds need MORE lofty in their drivers. I can get about 170 yards from 17 degree three wood but can't hit a driver to save my neck so I may be at my optimum loft given my swing plane and speed.
