  1. Hey all,

I am headed up to vacation at Banff and Jasper National Park in June this year, but planned to go up early to knock off Fairmont Banff Springs off my Golf Bucket list. I have one more day of for golf before heading into the mountains, and wanted to know if any of my northern neighbors could give me their take on some of the other courses in the area, and which one I should play. The courses I am deciding between are Silvertip, Canmore, Stewart Creek, and Kananaskis.

Any suggestions or personal review on the course would be great.

    Thank you.

PS. I am a pretty good golfer (2 handicap), so I am not afraid of hard courses or conditions.

Kananaskis has 2 great courses, you won't be disappointed. Don’t feed the bears. Enjoy the Rockies!

Don't you just love golfers ! A 2 handicap and you figure you are only "pretty good" ! Hope you have a great holiday and that some of the TT members manage to respond to your request before you leave.

Most of the mountain courses open mid to end of May, hopefully you're here at the end of June, because it takes that long for the turf to truly recover.
Silver Tip and Stewart Creek are mountain golf, a lot of ups and downs with side hill lies. ( Banff is fairly flat in the river valley, so if you're looking for mountain golf I would play one of these two)
Canmore G&C is a 1926 traditional old school course and both Kananaskis courses were rebuilt after a 2013 flood reopened in 2018 so they are the newest ones, these courses all are fairly flat.
The views at all the courses are great (my profile picture was taken at Kananaskis).
Canmore G&C is right in town, Silver Tip is on the north side of the highway and Stewart Creek is at the east end of Canmore all within 15 minutes of each other.
Banff national park gates are maybe 5 mins from the west end of Canmore so you are already in the Rocky mountains.
Don't be surprised if you find turf conditions better at all four of these courses better than Banff Springs, the elk urine does a number on the turf and the bunkers were quite pebbly last time I played there.
Oh and you might want to bring some layers because you never know what the mountain weather is going to do.

Todd did an excellent job of summing everything up.
It is a treat to have all these courses in our back yard.

Out of all the courses, Stewart Creek will give you the best test of your game.
Kananaskis and Banff are forgiving as they lean a little more to the resort style with forgiving fairways.

Be sure to check course conditions as the winter can be harsh on the turf. Stewart had a bad winter last season and took a while to fully recover.

You will not be disappointed with any of the courses as the views are amazing.

Enjoy your visit and play well.
