Early season games are tough. Starting out with a new set of irons adds to the anxiety. You can practice indoors, and hit 100 putts a night in your living room, but it still takes time to get your game back. Add in the fact that your home course has punched their greens and you start to doubt yourself. Am I getting older, and maybe I won’t be able to post the scores I used to. But then you have a game like today. The course is next to empty because of weather and you start out 4 over par on the first 3 holes, but you still think your game is close. And then you hit your new 6 iron to 15 feet and make the putt, and then you hit two 7 irons and make another birdie, and suddenly the game is there. You end up carding a 78, and maybe you are not too old after all. Can’t wait until tomorrow.
