I am in the process of changing my irons from a competitor to Titleist. Trackman data with my existing clubs indicates that my Launch Angle and consequently Spin Loft are too high reducing both ball compression and overall distance. For my 6 iron the Swing Speed around 83 mph, Launch Angle 23-25 degrees, Smash Factor 128-1.30 and total distance 160 yards. I want to reduce the Launch Angle by 3-4 degrees. I currently have a 6.5 index and tend to pick the ball or make shallow divots.  I plan to go to a fitting centre but want to make sure that I understand the best way to achieve the desired result. A recommended club and shaft would be appreciated.

    Hi Robert B,

In order to lower launch angle by 3-4 degrees, the amount of loft at impact (dynamic loft) has to change.  The best way to achieve this would be playing stronger lofts.  Lower launching shafts like Dynamic Gold and C-Tapers may help a little, but a loft change would have a bigger influence.

As a starting point for your new iron search, I would try 714 AP2 with Dynamic Gold.  The lofts are slightly stronger from previous generations, as a result produce strong trajectories for most players.

    I hope this helps!

    Chris
