Whilst not exactly sure what type of putter you use, be careful when you try to put tape or paint across the top of your putter as it can change the performance of the club.

There are various processes available that can change the colour of a 'shiny' chrome putter/ golf club head such as using Gun Blue polishing cream - available in trade and hardware stores, however this is something we don't recommend any of our Scotty Cameron users ever doing as we always encourage utilising the Scotty Cameron Studio for all putter adjustments - including colour.
